How To Make Your Own Silly Putty

WeeCare Crafts

Kids love playing with silly putty! In occupational therapy we use it to help kids with sensory issues by making a game out of hiding different objects like toys in the putty, and then challenge the child to retrieve them. This is a fun and easy activity that can be done at home and great for entertaining the wee ones on those rainy days.

Want to make your own silly putty? Here’s how:

  1. In one bowl, mix 1/2 cup white Elmer’s Glue All with ½-cup warm water.
  2. Add food coloring or tempura paint to create a desired color.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix 1 teaspoon Borax with 1 cup cool water.
  4. Add contents of bowl 1 into bowl 2. Knead the mixture with your hands until it becomes silly putty. That’s it!

The putty will be very sticky at first, but after kneading for a little while the stickiness goes away. Store in a Ziplock to keep it fresh and it will last a long time.
